A former employee of the Punxsutawney Country Club is facing felony theft charges for allegedly stealing over $5,600 in deposits to fuel a gambling addiction.
Police charged Heather A. Smith, 47, of Punxsutawney, with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds. According to GantNews.Com, Smith admitted to taking a total of $5,622 from 15 separate deposits in August 2025. She reportedly told police she used the money for online gambling and local skill machines.
Smith expressed regret and offered to pay the money back. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 7.
