The Jefferson County Salary Board has eliminated a full-time deputy sheriff position through attrition, reducing the Sheriff’s Office to four full-time deputies, one non-uniformed employee and Sheriff Sam Bartley.
According to an ExploreJeffersonpa.com report, County officials said the move reflects reduced responsibilities within the department and will better match staffing with operational needs.
The board also converted a full-time claims coordinator position in the Veterans Service Office to part-time, citing improved efficiency after staff eliminated a backlog of veterans’ claims and helped secure nearly $800,000 in monthly VA compensation for local veterans.
